Daycare was based on my nine years as an assistant Sunday school teacher. It wasn’t exactly my job to teach but rather make sure the kids didn’t severely injure themselves. After basically a decade, I’ve seen my first three and four-year-olds grow into twelve and thirteen-year-olds; but there are still moments that I can never forget (mostly the painful ones). All the kids in this film are based on kids that have been in my underqualified care in some way shape or form and the terror that arises may not be too far from the truth either.  After all the pain, though, I can’t say that I haven’t loved each one of those kids and they inspire me everyday to be a better person; and for a feeling like that, I can tolerate being hit by a shoe or two.
